Buachaille Etive Mòr Hike: Stob Dearg & Stob na Bròige

Join us for an unforgettable summer hike in Glen Etive as we take on one or both of the spectacular Munros that form Buachaille Etive Mòr: Stob Dearg (1,022 m / 3,353 ft) and Stob na Bròige (956 m / 3,136 ft).

This iconic ridge walk offers breathtaking panoramic views over Glencoe, Rannoch Moor, and the Etive Valley is a must-do for any Scottish hillwalker.

Saturday, 16 August 2025

📍 Location

Meeting Point: Usher Hall, Edinburgh
Departure Time: 05:00 AM sharp
Note: An early start is essential due to the travel distance and hike duration.


🥾 Hike Overview

  • Distance: ~13–15 km (depending on whether one or both Munros are summited)
  • Elevation Gain: ~1,000 metres
  • Difficulty: Strenuous
  • Duration: 6–8 hours (including breaks)
  • Terrain: Rocky paths, steep ascents, exposed ridge walking

Participants may choose to:

  • Climb Stob Dearg only (the main summit)
  • Continue along the ridge to include Stob na Bròige
  • Or, if you’ve already done Stob Dearg, focus on Stob na Bròige this time

🎒 What to Bring

  • Sturdy hiking boots
  • Waterproof and windproof outerwear
  • Hat, gloves, and warm layers
  • Packed lunch and high-energy snacks
  • At least 2 litres of water
  • Walking poles (optional but recommended)
  • Sunscreen and midge repellent

🚗 Travel

Carpooling may be arranged. Please let us know early if you can offer or need a lift when registering. Avoid last-minute cancellations, especially if you’re part of a shared transport arrangement, as it affects planning. Fuel and parking costs will be shared among passengers.
